Why should you have Richard at your school?
"Our school is situated in what the F.B.I. just recently reported as the number one city for violent crimes and murders in the United States. We have many academic and behavioral interventions in place to help our at-risk population of students. However, our school wanted to move forward with addressing the issue of bullying in a more profound and specific way. To help us do this, we brought Richard Paul to our school of approximately 630 K-8 students in Flint, Michigan. Richard consulted with our school and worked with us for an entire school year. We scheduled for him to come and speak to our students at assemblies for a total of seven times spread out over the course of the entire school year covering different topics associated with bullying. We were able to divide our students into developmentally age-appropriate assemblies for different grade-level groups. Richard gave three assemblies each time he came for a total of 21 assemblies!

He is one of the most dynamic and entertaining bully prevention experts of our time. His presentations involved large puppets and amazing ventriloquism brought together with his funny stories and comedy. The staff and students alike looked forward to him coming to our school. Students could be heard at lunch and on the playground repeating funny lines from his stories, skits and sillyvoices! The humor and repetition resounded in the hearts and minds of our students! Each presentation reflected specific topics from his new bullying prevention curriculum. Teachers were given a lesson to add to their bullying prevention classroom binders to teach as reinforcement to each assembly. The teachers have enjoyed teaching the lessons because the activities make it fun for the students. Who said learning had to be boring? It’s never boring with Richard Paul.
Richard also helped us to develop our first-ever Student Council Against Bullying. He met with them several times after some of the assemblies to help give them direction and guidance. The reports of bullying have significantly gone up at our school as a direct result of addressing the issue constantly and consistently with Richard’s help. This is actually a good thing because it means our students have become completely aware of what bullying is and how to stop it. Our students have become our eyes and ears. We have come together, with Richard’s help, as a school family to put an end to bullying. It’s working. His programming has been an important piece to a comprehensive approach of positive behavior support interventions our school has put in place. His initiatives at our school helped contribute to the 18% drop in office referrals this school year and a 15.5% drop in suspensions.
Richard is a talented individual who understands what it means to be a victim of bullying. He has a non-threatening and powerful approach to teaching students about bullying prevention.
Laughter opens the door to our soul. Laughter opens our eyes. Laughter opens our ears. Laughter brings a peace and calm readying our hearts to receive the message Richard proclaims. His message is one of hope that has brought peace to our children, our staff and our community as a whole."
